Photo Friday - Little Things

IMG_8191

I've been seeing so many of helicopters flying about the last few days and thought they would be the perfect subject for little things. I found these guys on today's walk. 1907 is a pretty early sidewalk for Portland.

Photo Friday - Pets

YingYangZorZam

I'm trying to take Photo Friday pictures on my walks. I almost used a picture of a cat I found a few days ago, but when it came time to post the picture I just couldn't. I had to use a picture of my own pets. Zor and Zam are now about 6 months old. We got them on December 1st at the Oregon Humane Society. While they aren't litter mates, they came into the system on the same day and are basically the same age. They are now sisters in every sense of the word. They have been such a joy to our lives, but they also drive us a bit batty. Kittens are definitely handful. This was a quiet moment with Zam bathing Zor. I didn't realize that I had caught Zam's tongue until later when I looked through my pictures. After I put this picture on Facebook, my niece commented that they look like Ying and Yang. I love that.

Photo Friday - Shadow

IMG_6180

I'm been trying to challenge myself with Photo Friday by taking a picture on my walks to match the week's theme. When I saw that this week's theme was Shadow, I immediately knew I had to use this picture. This was taken in July 2011 in Idaho. Family had gathered from near and far to celebrate my dearly depated grandmother. Even at this sad affair, we had a great time visiting with family and remembering how amazing my grandmother was. On the last morning of our trip a group of us were waiting outside of our hotel to say good-bye to other family members. I took advantage of the time we spent waiting by taking family shadow portraits. I love this picture so much because it holds all of the people who are closest to my heart.

I posted this photo to Facebook that same day and had tagged everyone except the person who is fourth from the left who isn't on Facebook. An extended family member commented, "who's that dude?" My response: That's no dude, that's my mother! It still cracks me up to this day.

Photo Friday - Serene

IMG_0708

This week's Photo Friday subject was perfectly suited to my walk last Friday. Westmoreland park is 2 miles from my house. It is such a beautiful park and so serene. Usually when I visit here, I stop walking and spend a few moments to take it all in and enjoy being in the present. I always leave here feeling lighter and happier than before.

Photo Friday - Pattern

IMG_0026

I really can't believe how lucky I was to stumble across these Canada geese circling before landing at Crystal Springs Lake - less than 5 miles from downtown Portland. Thousands had already landed and these adolescents were coming down fast. They made quite the ruckus and were just breathtaking to see.

Photo Friday - Constructed

IMG_6429

For the theme constructed, I figured I would head to Portland's waterfront and check on how the new brige is progressing. I'm so excited for this new bridge which is for mass transit and pedestrians. No cars will be allowed on. The bridge won't be finished for a few more years. I can hardly wait. I walked down here just as the fog was lifting and the sun was poking through.  I love the eerie look to this picture.

Photo Friday - Evening

11.8.12 Evening

Daylight Savings helped me with this photo. I walk in the afternoon/early evenings and we 'fell back' last week, it hadn't been turning into evening when I was out and about. Today I got my chance during the last few hours that this challenge is still up.

Photo Friday - Dog

IMG_7283

I don't take many pictures of dogs on my walks.  Mainly because I don't want to infringe on the dog's privacy, but also because it takes too much time.  I do like this little fella, though.  His earnest gaze and bright red collar just makes me happy.

Photo Friday - Words

IMG_4720

The theme of this week's Photo Friday is Words.  When thinking about what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted to use this picture.  I love coming upon street art and this piece was just so lovely.  The bright pink Love on the barbed wire made a striking image.  I was happy to see that it stayed there for  many weeks before someone finally tore it down.

Photo Friday - Geometric

IMG_1124

When I saw that the theme for this week's Photo Friday was Geometric, I knew I wanted to use a picture of the new street painting at 16th and Brooklyn.  The pictures I took previously didn't quite work, so I came back and took this.

Photo Friday - Grandeur

IMG_0742

The theme this week for Photo Friday is grandeur.  While walking in one of the small rose gardens in Ladd's Addition, I saw this bench with roses all around it.  To me it looked like a throne and a pretty grand one at that.

Walk - Photo Friday

IMG_5997

I love Photo Friday.  I used to participate often many years ago and for whatever reason I stopped.  I get the weekly challenge in my in-box every week.  Every week I think, I need to get back into doing this...and I never do.  Until now!  I just couldn't let this challenge pass me by.  Walk - how perfect is that?  It's a great way to dip my toe back into the pool.  I didn't have to think long as to what photo to choose.  I took this picture back on an extremely rainy day in March.  I like how it's a self portrait on two levels.  I also like how I can instantly remember just how rainy the day was and how soaked my feet were.  Now that the sun has been out for days and days, I'm missing the rain.
